Installer & Download Warnings
Are Ventana apps safe to install?
Yes. Every Zap build is officially code-signed with a certificate issued through Microsoft, so Windows recognizes Ventana Tools LLC as the verified publisher. You should not see a "Windows protected your PC" or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning when installing Zap.
Why your browser might still warn you
Even with a signed installer, your web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) may occasionally flag a freshly released file as "not commonly downloaded," or ask you to confirm the download. This is based on how many people have downloaded that exact file so far. It is a browser reputation signal, not a statement about the safety of the app, and it clears up on its own as each release becomes more widely downloaded.
If your browser asks you to confirm a download:
- Choose Keep (Chrome or Edge), or Keep anyway if the download is paused.
- Open the downloaded .appinstaller (recommended, since it keeps Zap up to date automatically) or the .msix package.
- You can confirm the publisher shows as Ventana Tools LLC before installing.
Verifying the signature
You can verify any download yourself: right-click the file, choose Properties, and open the Digital Signatures tab. The signature should list Ventana Tools LLC. If it does not, do not run the file, and let us know at [email protected].
